Peer Health Educator Program Assistant

The Peer Health Education (PHE) Program Assistant is a graduate level, student employment position with the Student Health and Wellness Center. The PHE Program Assistant supports the Peer Health Education Program by providing educational training and programming to UWM students and mentoring the Peer Health Educator team. The Program Assistant is responsible for managing the logistics of peer health education programs and events, and for supporting Peer Health Educators in developing and presenting new programs on health and wellness topics relevant to the college student population.

Job Duties: 

Primary Responsibilities 

1. Mentor the PHE team in applying theories and models of health behavior, best practices in health education, and peer-reviewed literature in the creation and facilitation of evidence-based and evidence-informed health education programs for the UWM student body.  

2. Develop and present relevant educational programming to UWM students through facilitated small-group workshops, large-group presentations, passive activities, and information booths (tabling). 

3. Complete routine program assessment and evaluation, including survey design and administration, data collection, analysis, and reporting. 

4. Mentor the PHE Team throughout program planning and implementation process, including leadership of event coordination, marketing, and day of logistics and presentation. 

5. Supervise PHEs in the implementation and facilitation of health education programs and activities.  

6. Provide feedback on PHE performance to the Health Promotion Coordinator, as a means of quality improvement.  

7. Manage administrative tasks, such as reserving spaces, submitting content to newsletters, and monitoring a shared email inbox. 

8. Assist in leading collaboration efforts between the PHE Team and campus partners to develop, facilitate and support health-related programming across campus. 

9. Serve as a liaison for the PHE Team with student organizations, committees, clubs, and University Housing to extend and strengthen our partnerships. 

10. Assist in event promotion by planning and creating marketing materials, including social media content, event flyers, and newsletters. 

Additional Responsibilities May Include 

1. Serve as a student representative on unit and campus wide committees as needed. 

2. Attend meetings related to health promotion efforts on campus as assigned. 

3. Perform other appropriate duties and special projects as assigned.
