TN-079 – Entry Level Substation Protection and Controls Engineer

Job Description:  
TOR Engineering is looking for an Entry Level Electrical Substation Protection and Controls Engineer to provide engineering services in the support of design and project management services related to transmission and distribution substation projects for both utility and commercial clients.  The substations can typically vary from 500kV thru 12.47kV.  This position is an entry level position open to new electrical engineering graduates and soon to be graduates. Retentive minds encouraged to apply.  Mentorship and training will be provided as this is an entry level position.

Individual should have an eye for detail, have a good work ethic and be a team player. Candidate should have a customer service-oriented approach. TOR is a small company with room for room for you to directly develop relationships with customers and foster company ties with many facets of the utility industry.

Responsibilities Include:
• Develop One Line diagrams showing detailed relaying schemes, control switches, communications schemes, equipment layouts, etc.
• Develop Three Line diagrams showing detailed current transformer and potential transformer circuits and their connections.
• Develop detailed protection and control schematic diagrams for the substation project including Line/Transformer protection, Bus protection, Capacitor Bank protection, SCADA systems, Breaker and Switch operation, etc.
• Develop detailed wiring diagrams for Relay panels, AC/DC panels, SCADA panels, Transformers, Breakers, CCVT’s, etc. in support of the schematic diagrams.
• Document cable routing schedules 
• Develop nameplates for relay panels, equipment, junction cabinets, etc.
• Develop detailed Bill of Materials documenting all major and minor items.
• Develop equipment and construction technical specifications.
• Perform site visits, take notes and measurements of field conditions to compare with existing substation drawings
• Communicate with customers and attend meetings for design reviews and updates on the project.
• Communicate with various parties to ensure designs satisfy all customer’s internal stakeholders.
• Forecast project estimates and refine as designs progress from inception to construction.
• Perform calculations in support of voltage drop, conductor ratings, equipment power requirements, etc.
• Candidate must be willing to overlook job title and role to achieve project needs within scheduled due dates.

General Design:
• Design of projects which adhere to National Electric Safety Code and meet the standards of client and TOR.

General Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical) from an accredited university.
• Must be self-motivated and able to communicate and work well within a design team to ensure successful design of the entire design project. 
• Must be willing to adjust design criteria mid project to satisfy customer needs as they change with project development. Requires flexibility and high-level understanding of project overall goals.
• Knowledge of computer aided drafting (CAD) software is a preferred, but not required.
