Maryland Avenue Montessori - America Reads Tutor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Tutors and school sites will work together to schedule the tutors' 8-10 hours within the school week. The typical school schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 p.m. Applicants must have blocks of availability within these time frames. We ask that applicants be able to commit to a full academic year. 

The America Reads tutor will partner with a Milwaukee-Area school to provide their learners with literacy and math support. America Reads is a government-funded program geared towards helping children meet literacy and math benchmarks and support their overall success. America Reads tutors will be working with children in K-8 who have been identified by the school as needing additional support. Tutors will collaborate with their in-school contacts with diverse populations of students with varying degrees of reading and math readiness, student population classifications, and barriers. 

Prior to entering the school, tutors will engage in a training that will give them additional tools and background knowledge for working in the K-8 settings, engaging with learners, introductory instructional techniques, and general HR on-boarding. 

Required Qualifications: 

Comfortable Working with Children Experience Solution-Oriented with Student-Centered Approach Positive, Growth-Mindset Energetic, and Motivational Knowledge of Basic Ability to Work in a Team 

Math or Ability to Learn Professionalism

Knowledge of Basic Literacy or Ability to Learn 

Ability to Work Independently
