Wisconsin LGBTQ History Intern
Overview of Role & Responsibilities
The primary function of the Intern is communications support for our ongoing mission of elevating and celebrating local LGBTQ history. Assignments will provide a wealth of developmental experiences in historic research, documentation, promotion, and outreach with diverse audiences throughout Wisconsin, as well as extensive project management and community relations experience. Tasks will include conducting original research, hosting interviews, collecting and digitizing archival materials, composing articles and press releases, and coordinating placement and publishing of project content. The secondary function of the intern will be next-generation social media management. We use multiple platforms to elevate the lived experiences and amplify the voices of all LGBTQ communities. By planning, launching, programming, and measuring a successful presence, the intern will connect new and uncharted audiences with local LGBTQ history via fresh, colorful and captivating content. We need specific focus on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Your content will enhance the reach, accessibility and relevance of our organization while providing excellent takeaways for case study reporting. (25%)
The intern will also support the planning, production, and delivery of organizational outreach and events. This will include collaborating with project teams, creating and managing action items, handling campaign and event logistics, and leading fundraising and sponsorship opportunities. By providing tactical support to History Project events, the intern will work with multiple board members, community advisors, volunteers, partner organizations, media representatives, and elected officials who will provide unique opportunities for networking, learning, and personal growth. At all times, the intern must demonstrate behavior consistent with the mission, purpose, and values of the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project.
This role requires 8-10 hours per week, but work schedules are completely independent, self-managed, and remote. Work can be done from any location at any time, as long as workload is managed and goals are met. This is the ideal role for a strong, self-starting communicator who knows how to build, maintain and grow digital/social presence, and can hit their targets in a self-sufficient but supported workplace
Evaluation Criteria:
On-time, correct, and complete delivery of all event tasks, as assigned;
Active and ongoing daily support of events and campaigns, as agreed upon in advance;
Continuous, responsive, and reliable communications, across a variety of formats;
Successful launch, content creation, community management, and sustainability for social media, accounts, monitoring key KPIs to ensure continuous growth and improvement;
Weekly Progress Reports, to include updates on tasks completed, lessons learned, and obstacles/challenges requiring leadership involvement. The Progress Reports can take the form of an online meeting or phone call. If scheduling conflicts arise, an email report will be sufficient.
Self-Assessment, at the end of assignment, to reflect on all lessons learned;
Board & Supervisor Assessment, at the end of the assignment, to reflect on performance.
