REFLO Sustainable Water Solutions- Environmental Education Intern

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


● Support Educational content creation (culturally relevant and water, environmental and sustainability focused)
 

Lesson planning and program delivery
○ Assist in developing environmental education lessons
○ Support the expansion of Reflo's "Engagement Menu" of program offerings
○ Develop and deliver in-person environmental education programs
○ Write lesson plans to support Outdoor Discovery Carts
○ Prepare lesson materials to support instruction
○ Lead small group activities
 

Outreach and communications support (educational programs, EcoLiteracy Challenge, schoolyard redevelopment projects, community connections)
● High School Environmental Internship program support
○ Participate in and support weekly internship workshops and special events
○ Serve as a group mentor of a team of high school students working on sustainability projects at their school or in the community

The Successful Candidate has:

● Enthusiasm for Reflo's mission and a desire to support community-based projects

● Knowledge of Google Suite

● Strong organization and coordination skills including time management, scheduling, and detailed

follow-up procedures for oneself and others

● A willingness to be flexible and adapt to the growing nonprofit’s needs

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse

groups of project stakeholders and collaborate with project partners

● Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent Reflo in a

professional and appropriate manner to a wide range of project partners

● Ability to participate in infrequent evening and weekend activities, when scheduled

● Ability to work in a small team setting with varying degrees of supervision

● Highly self-motivated

● Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred, but not required

● Wants to make a difference and support Milwaukee area communities

*A desktop computer will be provided for in-office work. A laptop may be available to support work from home if request

 

Please describe other skills/learning outcomes students will develop in this position:

An Environmental Education intern will be exposed to multiple environmental topics connected to the Milwaukee-area community and Reflo's program areas. Interns will have the opportunity to expand their environmental knowledge of green infrastructure, climate education/justice, and sustainability practices while investigating the role community voice and engagement plays in advancing sustainability goals.Interns will grow in their lesson planning and program delivery skills, participate in collaborative planning highlighting community and organizational partnerships, and develop their personal confidence with public speaking, community education, and program support.
