UWM Transportation Services' mission is to provide transportation solutions that serve all modes of transportation within the UWM community, while supporting the mission of education and research. We coordinate and administer all transportation-related services on campus, serving a diverse range of needs and focusing on reducing overall parking demand. The goal is to offer multiple travel choices, enhance multi-modal connectivity, and shift emphasis away from single-occupancy vehicle use.
Job Description
Be On the Safe Side (B.O.S.S.) is UWM's late-night, safe-ride service for students. B.O.S.S. is open daily from 6 pm - 2 am during the regular semester. A driver’s job is to safely transport students around the campus and surrounding areas. Drivers must always be focused on safety, including obeying the rules-of-the-road, adhering to UWM and departmental policies, and identifying situations that could escalate. Knowledge of the area is encouraged but not necessary. Base pay is $12.00 per hour, but there are incentives to earn additional pay:
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 10pm-2am - $2.25
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 6pm - 10pm - $1.25
Qualifications & Expectations
To apply for this position, one must be enrolled for at least three credits. Applicants must be willing to abide by all FAA work rules/practices specifically outlined but not limited to the Student Employment Handbook and handbooks and/or rules outlined by your department. All applicants must have the ability to work at least two weekend shifts (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) and two late shifts (9:45a-2:00a).
Job Functions include but are not limited to:
Ensure the safety of all riders.
Responding to ride requests and tracking riders using the TransLoc app.
Provide excellent customer service, and a safe place for your riders to be picked up and dropped off.
Provide a safe driving experience for your riders and take them to their destinations.
Maintain vehicle cleanliness
Complete assigned tasks by Transportation Services staff as needed
Minimum Requirements
Must be available to work between 10:00 PM and 2:30 AM at least twice per week.
Must be scheduled to work two shifts per week, including once each weekend.
Must have a valid driver’s license for at least two years (if a Wisconsin license is held, it must be a Regular license, not Probationary).
Must have no more than two moving violations in a three-year period
