Graduate Student Assistant in the LGBTQ+ Resource Center

Join the UW-Milwaukee LGBTQ+ Resource Center Team as our Graduate Student hourly position! Our staff are integral to the mission and work of creating a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ students and their allies, and fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and respectful UW-Milwaukee campus community. Interested students should be problem solvers who are friendly and willing to engage in difficult dialogues with the goal of deepening people’s understanding of identities along the gender, sexuality, and expression of spectrums. 

 

Each member of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center staff are expected to work in-person desks shifts, interact with our Discord community, organize and facilitate unique and annual events, and act as a resource to UW-Milwaukee affiliated community. This role is expected to be fully in-person, with flexibility in cases of health and wellness concerns. The Graduate student hourly position will be a contributing member of the professional staff team at the LGBTQ+ Resource Center. 

 

Position Description: The Graduate Student will provide operational and programmatic support for the LGBTQ+ Resource Center while assistant with assessment and data collection efforts that support the Collective’s strategic priorities.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support undergraduate student staff in planning the following signature events:
    • Fall Welcome (September)
    • Coming Out Monologues (October)
  • Coordinate the logistics for signature events, including:
    • Transgender Day of Remembrance (November)
    • Pride Week (2nd Week of Spring Semester)
    • Lavender Graduation Celebration (May)
  • Assist with LGBTQ+ Resource Center event planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinate volunteer recruitment and student leadership opportunities
  • Manage marketing, communications, and social media for the LGBTQ+ Resource Center
  • Support office operations and student engagement initiatives
  • Assist with outreach and collaboration with student organizations and campus partners, such as:
    • Student Government LGBTQ+ Advocacy Senator
    • Kaleidoscope Living Learning Community
    • Chancellor Advisory Committee for LGBTQ+ Advocacy
    • And others as assigned

 

Areas of Focus: Program and Event Coordination

  • Other projects as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in graduate coursework at UW-Milwaukee for the duration of the assistantship
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be able to work 10+ hour per week, including occasional evening/weekend hours
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Teams, Word, Excel, etc), along with Canva, Instagram/Facebook, and other social media or website software
  • Experience working with communities of diverse experiences, including race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and ability
  • Excellent organizational, self-starting, prioritizing, and communicating skills

Compensation:

Starting hourly rate of $15.00/hour
