Location:                     African American Student Academic Services (Bolton Hall, Room 170)

 

Supervisor:                 Tiffany M. Kelly, Academic Advisor

 

Rate of Pay:                $8.25-$9.00 Per Hour


Work-Study Required: YES (must show proof upon work-study award upon hire)

 

Hours/Schedule:      15-20 hours a week commitment requested with flexibility for class schedules. Daytime, weekday works schedule. Work schedule may change per semester and during special times of the year (e.g. – final exams, UWinteriM, etc.). Summer employment is possible. Office will work around class schedule. 

Position Summary:  The position of Office Assistant within the African American Student Academic Services (AASAS) office is a part-time “work-study” position to be filled by undergraduate students who are attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide administrative support to the AASAS professional advising staff and overall office. 

Duties includes: Greeting visitors, answering the phone, scheduling appointments, making copies and performing other routine office functions. In addition, you will be assisting AASAS staff with the execution of weekly, monthly, and per-semester special projects and other duties as assigned.

Specific duties of the position include (but are not limited to): 

1. Greeting visitors, answering basic questions about UWM and referring visitors to appropriate offices on campus.

2. Answering the telephone, taking messages and referring the caller to other campus units as necessary.

3. Sorting and delivering the mail.

4. Extensive filing.

5. Schedule advising appointments for student.

6. Making copies, faxing information and scanning documents.

7. Overseeing the waiting room: letting staff know when appointments have arrived; keeping the room tidy; putting out materials as needed; removing outdated materials as needed.

8. Assist with office promotional efforts as requested.

9. Perform other duties as assigned.

8. Must have adequate technical skills – i.e Microsoft Office 365, Word (Excel and Publisher a plus)

9. Must be flexible, able to multitask, and able to adapt to changing work condition
