Security Coordinator Support

Summary:

This is a technical support, research and documentation position working on computer security related projects as assigned by the UITS Information Security Coordinator. Acceptable candidates should be detail oriented, possess good organizational abilities, and demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills. He or she should also be able to work effectively both with and without direct supervision and be willing to multi-task. This position will be working with students, faculty, and staff. 

Qualifications & Expectations:

  • Interest in working independently and meet project deadlines with minimal supervision after a period of training.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Interest in technical writing (FAQs, installation instruction, user tips, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to learn about and use emerging technologies as well as advise others on the implementation and evaluation of emerging technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
  • Ability to compose and produce correspondence in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Some knowledge and experience in basic PC hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Some knowledge of and an interest in current computer security issues including virii, spyware, blended threat type issues and hacking/unauthorized access type threats.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to think quickly on your feet and make informed decisions.
  • Abide by all UITS work rules/practices specifically outlined but not limited to the Student Employment Handbook and handbooks and/or rules outlined by your department. 

Job Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in responding to virus and security tickets for on campus support customers. This includes initial troubleshooting, some analysis of the incident and preparing a report on the incident.
  • Work with Desktop Support to assist in third level support for virus and security walk in and call in support.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of security related desktop support security related curriculum to help desk staff.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, end user instructions and “FAQs.”
  • Learn to administer and supporting McAfee AntiVirus services.
  • Work on various technical and non technical projects for the office as assigned.
  • Keep up on the latest information security related news and events.
