UWM Surplus is seeking a student employee to help handle excess furniture and equipment from campus. Common items that are handled include all types of furniture, electronics, lab equipment, shop equipment, computers, and computer accessories. UWM Surplus, tasked with handling all such material, relies on reuse by faculty and staff, reuse by other public-sector agencies, online public auctions, recycling, and donations to offset the cost of purchasing new items for departments and insure that unusable items are ethically disposed of.

Candidate Minimum Qualifications:
• A willingness to work in a physically demanding warehouse environment
• The ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs
• The ability to use hand trucks, palette jacks, and forklifts (training will be provided)
• A willingness to take direction and adhere to departmental policies and procedures
• A positive demeanor, particularly when interacting with customers
• Strong self-motivation and the ability to work in a non-linear environment

Candidate Preferred Qualifications:
 • Previous experience in a warehouse
• Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License

 The position will require 15-20 hours per week (Monday-Friday only) during the school year and additional hours may be available during breaks. This position reports daily to the UWM Surplus Manager and overall to the Chief Sustainability Officer. It is important to note that this position also works with other staff in Physical Plant Services, UWM faculty, UWM staff, and members of the public.

 Pay based on experience, $9-$10/hour
