Peer Outreach Coordinator

Overview: Our work is to maintain a welcoming, inclusive and informative environment for the campus community. As student employees you are often the first point of contact for visitors.

Professionalism Expectations: 

  • Be a role model & leader in creating a welcoming environment for all visitors of the LGBTRC.  

  • Adhere to the Safe Space Expectations, Statement of Ethical Standards, and Confidentiality Agreement. Address Safe Space & Confidentiality concerns/violations within the LGBTRC.  

  • Develop and become familiar with an “elevator speech” about the LGBT Resource Center.  

  • Be aware & knowledgeable of current & upcoming programs/events. 

  • Be knowledgeable of the Library System for requests (categories, checking out/in, etc). 

  • Act on behalf or and/or serve in an official capacity for the LGBTRC at events/programs. 

  • Ask clarifying and follow-up questions and/or help as needed.   

  • Substantiate the completion of tasks: follow up with professional staff & relevant student staff.   

  • Provide thorough consistency service to all visitors & staff of the LGBT Resource Center. 

  • Be willing & capable of providing appreciation & constructive feedback for peers, professional staff, programs & activities.   

  • If someone is looking for a referral or advice do your best to help them out but remember that we are not trained counselors so be judicious with the information you volunteer. If you cannot find the information needed always urge the visitor/caller to contact us again and acquire contact information so that the professional staff can follow-up.
