The Office of College Relations located within the Dean’s Office of UWM’s College of Letters & Science is responsible for all promotion and communication tasks related to the College. We are the largest academic unit on campus, comprising approximately 25% of the student body. We administer 45+ majors and dozens of certificates, covering all of the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. From art history to urban studies, our marketing mission is diverse and broad. We are seeking a part-time graphic design assistant to assist with a variety of projects. This is an ideal opportunity to contribute to the production of mail campaigns, advertisements, brochures, fliers, posters, e-blast campaigns, newsletters, web pages, social media, and video.

Job Responsibilities: Working with the Assistant Dean for College Relations and a full-time professional graphic designer, the Graphic Design Assistant will provide support for design and marketing projects. Typical projects include:
  • Managing our digital on-campus advertising campaign including the creation of the ads
  • Creating print designs including posters, banners, flyers and other display items
  • Assisting with social media initiatives and graphics
  • Creating newsletter templates
  • Other marketing and design tasks as assigned

Desired Skills:
  • A strong interest in applying graphic design skills to a variety of marketing projects ranging from advertising to social media to web to print
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop. This skill is essential and non-negotiable.
  • Able to both work independently and collaborate with others as needed
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently to meet deadlines
  • High attention to detail including 100% accuracy in spelling
  • Advanced Power Point proficiency
  • Strong written communication abilities

Starting Date and length of job: Start date mid-August to early-September and runs the length of the school year through mid-May, 2020.

Salary: This is a paid position at a rate of $11.00 to $11.50 per hour depending on skills.

Hours: Hours are extremely flexible to accommodate the student’s class and study schedule but typically occur between the hours of 7:45 am to 5:30 pm. Approximately 10 to 14 hours per week are needed. The office is located in Merrill Hall.
