Accounting Finance Intern

Student Worker – Accounting Finance Intern, 20 hours or less/week

Purpose of Position Under direction of the Financial Specialist Advanced and Assistant Dean, help pull financial reports and data, then help analyze past results as well as help forecast future results. Additionally responsible to help reconcile various accounts. Interpret and analyze financial data. Maintain policies and procedures. Produce various accounting reports. Perform internal reconciliations. Assist other Business Office Staff as needed.

Description of Responsibilities Approximate Percent Time
Various Funds Financial Administration – Prepare and Review Financial Reports: 30%
Auditing P-Card Statements, Assisting with Purchases, etc: 30%
Budget projects as assigned: 20%
Other duties as assigned: 20%

Knowledge and Skills Required
• Ability to perform accounting work and give technical advice in complex or highly specialized phase of accounting;
• Ability to work independently in a complex large organization and be able to work with groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds, providing courteous professional customer service to campus and non-campus clientele.
• Ability to use computer programs, such as spreadsheets, word processing, data bases and email applications. Programs used are Microsoft office products
• Knowledge or ability to learn University and other commercial vendor software packages, such as WISDM, WISPR, and Shared Financial Systems
• Ability to learn and apply a broad understanding of complex State, UWSA, and UWM policies and procedures, rules and regulations that govern fiscal activities at the University. Knowledge of UWM Administrative Services Manual, Administrative Guidelines for the Appointment of Graduate Student Staff, Graduate School Manual, UWM Policies on faculty appointment; UWM Academic staff Personnel and Policies and Procedures; Personnel Activity and Reporting guidelines; the Agreement between the State of Wisconsin and Milwaukee.
• Ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, handle confidential issues and solve problems.
• Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment, establish priorities, and set deadlines.
• Ability to apply accounting/auditing methods to a broad array of funding sources.
• The ability to read and analyze complex data and financial statements.
• Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
• Ability to use discretion and good judgment regarding confidential information
