Recruitment/Retention Specialist
College of Health Sciences – Office of Student Affairs

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree and be enrolled in graduate-level coursework in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or similar Master’s degree program. 

Description:
Graduate Student needed to assist in the College’s recruitment and retention efforts. Duties include providing support for Recruitment and Retention functions including staffing, developing and editing communications, student records data support and other administrative duties. 

Duties to include the following:

Primary Responsibilities:
Support Student Recruitment Activities
·        Represent the College at on-campus recruitment events as hosted by the University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions;
·        Assist with implementation of communication plans to prospective students utilizing the campus’ Recruitment interface;
·        Develop and edit communication messaging to students for web, communication campaigns, print materials;
·        Conduct follow-up communications with prospective students and their families (as appropriate);
·        Assist in the development and staffing of internal recruitments events, including those co-sponsored by other UWM schools/colleges who also target students interested in health careers/majors;
·        Accompany CHS and other recruiters to off-campus recruiting visits, transfer fairs, high school visits, etc.;
·        Conduct workshops/information sessions for students interested in UWM Health Careers.
Support Retention Activities
·        Work collaboratively with the College’s Advisors on retention activities such as those that target Undecided students, students at academic risk, and those enrolled in high-risk classes;
·        For undecided and academically at-risk students, track student usage of campus support programs such as Panther Academic Support Services, Career Planning and Resource Center;
Support Scholarship Coordination
·        Provide support for the OSA staff and Faculty who evaluate scholarship applications and correspond with scholarship applicants;
·        Provide support for OSA staff who coordinate the College’s Scholarship application process in conjunction with UWM’s Financial Aid Office.

Support activities for Students in Transition
·        With Academic Advisors, provide support and assistance for new freshmen and new transfer students attending campus Orientation events;
·        Assist Advisors in coordinating events such as prepping materials, making room reservations, communicating with campus organizers and alerting Advisors to course enrollment issues.
Serve as a member of the OSA Staff
·        Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings;
·        Attend monthly academic appeals meetings as needed.
·        Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Applicants should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. and be comfortable navigating large student records databases (with training).  
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking to a variety of constituencies (students at all levels and from diverse populations, their families, University Faculty and Staff, etc.).
 Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize tasks is required.
