DREAMERS Assistant, Inclusive Excellence Center

Unit Description

The UWM Division of Student Affairs is to be recognized as the premier Student Affairs Division, innovative in creating a thriving student-centered learning community that is dedicated to students' well-being, success, personal growth, and professional development.

The Inclusive Excellence Center's (IEC) mission is to promote student development and engage the campus community on the topics of diversity, equity and social justice. The IEC seeks to enhance the student experience by addressing campus climate, offering cross-cultural learning experiences as well as a connected campus environment to ensure their retention and eventual graduation from UWM.

Program Description

The DREAMERS Initiative was launched in summer 2016 to support undocumented students at UWM. This effort includes professional development for campus employees and resources for campus community members. The initiative recognizes dreamers are no monolithic. As a student population in the U.S., there are unique challenges for dreamers, who may be DACA-mented, undocumented, etc. DREAMERS works closely with the UWM Undocumented Student Task Force and other campus partners such as the Roberto Hernandez Center, Admissions, Housing, and Financial Aid.

Positional Responsibilities

  • Assist with the DREAMERS Initiative
  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the IEC
  • Attend IEC meetings and events
  • Represent the IEC professional and consistently
  • Complete special projects as assigned by supervisor(s)

Qualifications

  • Graduate student
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
  • Must be enrolled at least half time at UW-Milwaukee
  • Be able to work 15 - 20 hours per week
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and/or knowledge of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the DREAM Act
