Multicultural Student Center Office Assistant at the American Indian Student Center

The American Indian Student Center (ASIC) provides timely, accurate, personalized information and assistance to incoming, admitted, and enrolled students and their families as they explore their college options and ultimately attend UWM as their campus of choice. Students and their families will be offered an optimal, welcoming experience through:

  • Exceptional delivery of quality information programs and services.
  • Culturally informed services.
  • Building and maintaining enrolled student relationships.
  • Responsive partnering with campus units and external constituents engaged in recruitment and retention efforts.
  • A commitment to academic and personal success for all who apply to and attend UWM.
 
Position Description: The AISC is seeking energetic, self-motivated individual to serve in a variety of roles within the office. This individual will be responsible for assisting all AISC staff through daily operations and support tasks. This person will be comfortable working with a high degree of attention to detail and discretion.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Handle incoming phone calls, emails, and other communications.
  • Greet and assist all students and visitors.
  • Manage staff calendars and appointments.
  • Assist with phone call campaigns.
  • Manage files, updating paperwork, and other documents.
  • Perform other general office duties and aiding in any other projects as assigned.
  • Collaborate in planning of most signature events as well as outreach events.
  • Contribute to a positive and engaged working environment for the AISC.
  • Assist in the delivery of quality tour experience and maintain up-to-date and accurate information.
  • Track visitors that visit the office, assess guest experience, make recommendations and implement enhancements to the visit programs.
  • Coordinate and assist in recruitment events, including Meet Milwaukee, Go Milwaukee, U-Visits, Transfer Days and others.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a currently enrolled UW-Milwaukee student.
  • Knowledge and experience with Indigenous identities and cultures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good academic standing
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Work study funding preferred but not required
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective and efficient time management and ability to multi-task.
  • Identifying student needs and matching them with available resources.
