University Housing Business Administration Student Office Assistant (BASOA)

University Housing is hiring Business Administration Student Office Assistants to begin working in the Fall 2023 semester.


The Business Administration Student Office Assistant will work directly with Business Administration unit for University Housing and is responsible for functions listed below. University Housing’s Business Administration Student Office Assistant(s) is/are responsible for general clerical support including: provide high quality customer service, office reception, answering phones, and administrative tasks. The assistant would need to be available during office hours, Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm and some evening and weekend hours as needed. The assistant would be located in the University Housing Office located within Sandburg Residence Halls at: 3400 N Maryland Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53211.



Position Requirements

  • Retain (at minimum) part-time status as a student at UWM (at least 6 credits).
  • Maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Student staff members who drop below the 2.0 minimum may be released from their position or placed on probation. (Applies to Fall and Spring semesters)
  • Have one academic year of live-in experience in the residence halls at UWM.
  • Demonstrate qualities of leadership, responsibility, and maturity.
  • Previous housing, administrative duties, and general accounting experience preferred.
  • Willingness to accept new responsibilities and challenges while learning in the position.



Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Provide reception desk coverage, answer phone lines and University Housing email and social media accounts, and manage incoming calls from current and perspective residents and their family.
  • Provide high quality customer service for internal and external residents, their families, and other campus Departments or constituents.
  • Assist with campus recruitment efforts, which could include but is not limited to tabling and housing tours.
  • Provide assistance in making copies, laminating, and distributing flyers for residence halls.
  • Copy, file, fax and mail office correspondents.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and other software to input data and maintain records.
  • Perform data entry and verify data entry into Housing Module System (HMS) and Panther Access to Web Services (PAWS).
  • Assist with special projects as requested by the Business Administration staff.
