CIE student administrative assistant

Department Description: Center for International Education (CIE): CIE is home to a wide array of programs and services including international student and scholar admissions and immigration advising; study abroad and student exchange programs, and public programming and K-12 international education outreach.
Position opening(s): Center for International Education Student Administrative Assistants. The office is seeking mature, friendly internationally engaged students who can ideally make at least a one-year commitment to the office. This is a good opportunity for pre-professional training in the fields of International Education, Higher Education Administration, and Human Resources. (NOTE: there is a one-month probationary period and periodic performance reviews)
Hours: Part-Time, up to 20 hours per week. Students must have a minimum two-hour block of time in their schedule per work shift to devote to the office. Our open office hours for fall are 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Friday, though there may rarely be voluntary additional Friday hours, night, and weekend hours. Applicants must be available during CIE open hours to be considered for this position. The office is open year-round, and we expect students to be available to work all year, though students can take unpaid approved vacation time. Because of the limitations for student hours for on-campus employment, students are not allowed to have another campus job in addition to their work at CIE.
Wage: $11/hour
Job qualifications
Minimum: Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Power Point); excellent customer service; strong attention to detail; good academic and disciplinary standing at current university; ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse clients
Preferred: ability to successfully execute both written and verbal instructions; desire to collaborate with administrators; adaptability and ability to prioritize; strong written communication skills
Job description
The Center for International Education Student Administrative Assistants will be providing support to the CIE Directors in International Student & Scholar Services and Study Abroad and the Immigration Advising team, which works with UWM’s international students and faculty. Tasks include assisting with core office needs, such as scanning and/or copying documents, database updates, electronic and physical file maintenance, assisting with orientations and/or special events for international students/scholars, picking up/delivering intercampus mail between CIE and other offices on campus, other office duties, and special projects as assigned. There may be occasional back-up front desk customer service to the students, faculty, staff and other constituents who visit the CIE office.
