 About Restaurant Operations:
Restaurant Operations offers the UWM community a wide variety of dining options. From nutritious and custom made meals at Sandburg Café to meeting up with friends for food and watching sports in the Union’s Gasthaus. UWM’s Restaurant Operations has something for everyone. We offer a vast range of foods, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. Across campus, there are a total of 27 places to choose from. On the run? That’s okay because, the Union’s Atrium Flour Shop is a great place to grab a snack before class. There are also a number of convenience stores on campus; Union Station which is located on the ground floor of the Union, and the RESTOR with healthy food options in Cambridge, Riverview, NWQ, and Sandburg. We also provide excellent catering services, from lunch on the run to elegant full service dinners. Restaurant Operations is proud to serve the UWM community to meet everyone’s needs with a vast spectrum of dining options.

 ***PLEASE NOTE*** Hourly wage varies between $11.00-$12.00 based on experience. Wage increase after a probation period is also likely based on job performance.  

Job Description:
This position is for a determined and organized design student, with a positive and creative personality.
A UWM Restaurant Operations Graphic Designer is one that holds a wide array of duties and responsibilities, while maintaining the overall quality and day-to-day operations. The individual ensures that each unit and branch of Restaurant Operations are having their needs met. This position handles a variety of printing as well as managing edits on the Restaurant Operations website. The individual must have verbal and written communication skills since this position will be working with different managers with different communication and management styles. Design is the main responsibility; however, duties extend to responsibilities of covering shifts in-unit, such as cashiering and food handling. The qualified applicant is one who has sharp time-management skills, a positive attitude, and must be self-driven.
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to execute and produce deliverables using Mac OS X operating system, Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), and the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Publisher and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to understand web versus print design.
  • Knowledge of digital media including digital photography and image editing.
  • Ability to receive and effectively act upon critique, feedback and criticisms. Understands the distinction between points-of-view and opinions.
  • Must be a self-learner but also can learn from superiors.
  • Ability to process an idea from concept to completion.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work individually and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
 
Required Hours:
It is required that the individual works 20 hours/week (up to 25 hours/week) during the academic year. Working during the summer is required, up to 40 hours.
This is a position aimed at students and created for learning more about the technical and production side of design. This position has a lot of room for creativity, but also deals with a “client-based” work flow.
