Peer Health Educator, Student Health and Wellness Center - Starting August 2023

The Peer Health Educators work as a team to provide educational training and programming to UWM students on a variety of health and wellness topics.

Job Title: Peer Health Educator (PHE)

Job Description: The Peer Health Educator (PHE) will provide educational training and programming to UWM students. The PHE will be responsible for refreshing existing programming and developing their own programs on health and wellness topics that are relevant to the college student population. This includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: alcohol and other drug use; sexual health; stress, time management and relaxation; nutrition, fitness and body image; healthy relationships and violence prevention; infectious disease. The PHE is also responsible for presenting educational programs and information to their peers, through programs, information boards, social media, and tabling at events.   
 
This position reports to the Health Promotion Coordinator. 
 
Hours: 10-15 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, with regular evenings 
 
Job Duties:  
Essential Duties 
  1. Develop and present relevant educational programming to UWM students. 
  2. Complete routine program evaluation.  
  3. Collaborate with campus partners to develop, facilitate and support programming across campus.  
  4. Serve as a liaison to a University Housing Residence Hall and provide health-related programming and information to residential students.  
  5. Gather and develop materials to be displayed at campus tabling events and on campus bulletin boards.  
  6. Assist in marketing, social media content creation, and promotion of programs and events from the Peer Health Educators and partners within the Student Health and Wellness Center. 
 
Additional Duties  
  1. Serve as a student representative on at least one campus committee.  
  2. Support other departmental projects and needs as requested.  
  3. Perform other appropriate duties and assignments as required and/or assigned by the Health Promotion Coordinator.

Qualifications & Education Requirements: 
  • UWM student, currently enrolled 
  • Minimum GPA of 2.25 
  • Commitment to the PHE program for at least 1 academic year  
  • Comfort in speaking to students and student groups 
  • Ability to be flexible in hours to include some evening work 
 
Compensation & Evaluation: 
The starting wage for this position is $11.00/hour. This is determined with consideration of university guidance and comparable positions across campus. Employees will be evaluated once per year in accordance with the UWM Student Employee Manual. Employees will be considered for a merit increase at the time of evaluation.
