UREC Social Media Specialist

Job Summary 

The UREC Social Media Specialist professionally and positively posts and engages on UREC social media platforms to tell the story of UREC and increase awareness. This position reports to the UREC Marketing specialist but would also be responsible for tackling tasks independently. 

Responsibilities 

Maintain a thorough understanding of UREC’s and UWM’s Brand Standards and guidelines. 

Have a universal knowledge of the entire UREC department – all program areas, facility spaces, hours, and staffing.

Be in the know with the overall UREC calendar, i.e. Intramural Leagues schedule, Group X schedule, and Outdoor Pursuit Activities. 

Generate ideas and collect content for unique and engaging social media posts.

Create and schedule engaging social media posts for Instagram and occasionally Facebook according to UREC’s Social Media Marketing Guidelines.

Follow and engage with other related social media accounts.  

Regularly monitor UREC’s social media accounts and respond to comments, messages, etc in a timely and professional manner or forward the questions to someone who can answer. 

Positively and accurately relay UREC information to students. 

Make suggestions for creative marketing campaigns. 

Attend weekly regular social media team meetings to stay up to date on current UREC happenings. 

Check Teams chat regularly and keep up to date with assigned duties in a timely manner. 

Continually research and stay on top of current social media trends  

Assist with miscellaneous tasks around the facility and at events.

Qualifications 

Must be at least a part-time student or graduate student at UWM. 

Be available to work 15-20 hours per week, including during Winterim and Summer sessions. 

Maintain regularly scheduled weekly office hours but be readily available to work varying hours including nights and weekends as social media accounts need attention. 

Proficient in using various social media platforms both on a desktop and mobile device.  

Experience running a social media account or experience promoting a specific brand or program on social media. 

Proficient using Microsoft 365, especially Outlook and Teams. 

Ability to work well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. 

Must be an outgoing, organized, self-motivated, communicative individual who is comfortable stepping out of their comfort zone. 

Pay Rate: $11.50/hour
