UNION - Overnight Staff - Building Management
ESTIMATED START DATE: Summer 2025
Starting Pay: $11.50
Overnight staff’s primary focus is ensuring the safety and security of the Student Union during hours outside of normal operation. For most of their shift overnight staff are the only people in the building. Shifts begin at 11 PM and conclude at 7 AM the following day. Overnight staff will monitor the building with security cameras and will tour through the building throughout the shift. Overnight staff will also assist with unlocking and opening the building in the morning. Overnight staff report to the Student Union operations manager and student building managers who begin their shift at 6:30am each morning.
Qualifications:
· Must be a student in good academic standing and have at least two full semesters remaining.
· You will be required to work during late nights and early mornings (11pm-7am).
· The ability to perform specific, detailed instructions/assignments with minimal supervision.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Must possess good organizational skills and good judgment; particularly in difficult, stressful, or emergency situations.
· Must have willingness to accept new responsibilities and challenges while learning the position.
Essential duties include:
After every shift you must compose a report of anything found throughout the night and report any issues to the morning building manager.
During your shift you will regularly perform building tours of the Student Union and report potential safety hazards, mechanical problems, or policy violators.
You will be stationed at the information center and provide keys for staff and answer routine questions prior to the building being open to the public. Monitor the student union building manager’s phone and the 2-way radio for communication throughout the shift.
Assess and appropriately respond to emergency situations. Must be comfortable working closely with the UWM Police Department for any situation that may require their assistance.
Assist in returning seating and furniture to its designated locations as well as vacuuming and light cleaning.
